TRIATHLON – Heading to Thun for the Ironman Switzerland 2020

After 23 years in Zurich, the country's largest city, Ironman Switzerland is changing location in 2020 and will head to Thun, in the canton of Bern. Ironman Switzerland is the second oldest Ironman in Europe after Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote and the oldest on the European continent.

The athletes will swim 3,8 km in the clear waters of Lake Thun. The clockwise loop course will bring the athletes to the marina where the transition will take place.

The two-loop bike course will go to Spiez where the athletes will ride through the beautiful Gürbe Valley. The course will lead to Bern Airport, on the right side of the valley to the opposite side, where they will make a loop in the Gantrisch region. From there, the course will be relatively rolling and downhill until the transition area where the athletes will start the second loop.

After the 180 kilometres on the bike, the competitors will start the marathon in the old town, past Schadau Castle and along the Aare River to reach the other bank and the trails of the Thun City Run. After a U-turn, the runners will return to the race site for the finish.
