Mathys Garon is a cadet runner from VC Montigny in Yvelines, victim of a serious traffic accident during a cycling training session in mid-August.
While the forecast was still reserved for the end of August, the social media peloton mobilized to support this rider, an absolute fan of the AG2R – La Mondiale team and of Romain Bardet in particular, and for whom this was in 2019 his first year in competition.
Informed and touched by Mathys' fate, Romain Bardet took care to send him a signed jersey. best climber of the Tour de France, without forgetting a little personal word for the parents, who were still taking turns 24 hours a day at the Pitié Salpétrière where the young rider from Bures-sur-Yvette was still in intensive care.
Out of danger in mid-October, but with many months of rehabilitation still ahead of him, Mathys had the joy of discovering the gift from his favorite runner, but also a personal message from Julian Alaphilippe and Philippe Gilbert (the most French of Belgian runners!) during a training outing.
