The Vélomaritime: a maritime experience full of promise

Iodine, fresh air, lighthouses, beaches, cliffs… When you cycle along La Vélomaritime, the promise of maritime comfort is there. But not only that! Goal 2021
To date, 93% of the overall route, including the entire section between Roscoff and Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, are developed. The aim is to inaugurate La Vélomaritime in its entirety in 2021. In the meantime, tracks alternatives are being studied to make the route as easy as possible on the undeveloped sections. agencies specializing in bicycle travel are already marketing La Vélomaritime and developing ideas around the route.

Spotlight on the Vélomaritime
From Roscoff to the Risban lighthouse in Dunkirk, the route includes more than 50 lighthouses. They are found at sea, on the islands and capes, but also in the city... or on boats like the Sandettie in Dunkirk, transformed in a museum. Today, you can visit 8 lighthouses, stay in an old keeper's house or take breaks at the foot of these maritime towers which mark the 1 km of La Vélomaritime.

Breathtaking landscapes
Capes, cliffs, dunes, beaches… and the sea as far as the eye can see. Here is the promise of the route the most iodized cycle path in France. The salt and sea spray have created unique and magnificent landscapes whose reconbirth is now international. From Roscoff to Dunkirk, one can admire 5 Great Sites of France (labeled or in the process of being labeled) very different: the jagged capes of Erquy and Fréhel, the Cliffs of Étretat, the Coast Alabaster (in project), the extent of the Bay of Somme, the Two Capes Blanc-Nez and Gris-Nez, and the Dunes of Flanders (in project).

Discovering heritage treasures
Three UNESCO World Heritage sites, four National Monuments, three Most Beautiful Villages in France… The list of heritage discoveries is impressive. All along the route, the wonders of nature are complemented by architectural prowess. Saint-Malo, Mont-Saint-Michel, the resort seaside resort of Le Touquet-Paris-Plage, or the pretty little fishing ports... Here again, a stay on two wheels on La Vélomaritime promises visits rich in history and charming addresses to take a break and get restful nights.

Moments of exchange and conviviality around gastronomy
Pedaling on La Vélomaritime means admiring the landscapes and heritage in freedom... but not only that! Between friends, couples or family, the partagand conviviality are part of the journey. The 1 km route promise meetings with locals and experiences around local products. The menu is rich and diverse: Flemish cuisine, Cancale oysters, Normandy cheese... The little addresses local restaurants, Michelin-starred restaurants (29 in all!), on the water or with your feet in the water and visits to producers allow to taste French culinary heritage.

a route on the French route of Eurovélo 4EuroVelo 4 is a bicycleroute European which extends from Roscoff, in Bretagne, in kyiv, Ukraine. The French communities involved in its development have initiated an approach to structure the French sections and assert its position in the national and European cycling offer. They are now developing La Vélomaritime: a route from the Channel to the North Sea, in the continuity of the Tour de Manche. With a significant share of small routes hilly, it is an ideal route for cyclists looking for a sporting challenge or for electric bikes.
