Shimano France is partnering with the pioneer in cycle identification to provide customers with a marking solution through its retail network. Since January 1, 2021, sellers of new bicycles (in store or online) must affix the identification marking and register the owner of the bicycle on the National Single File of Identified Cycles (FNUCI, operational since March 9, 2021).

Currently booming, the bicycle market is however hampered by the numerous thefts suffered by urban cyclists in particular. In 2018, nearly 300 bicycles were reported stolen, however, of the nearly half of bicycles found, only 000 to 2% are returned due to lack of identification*. In order to more easily return bicycles to their owners, a specific measure of the Mobility Orientation Law (LOM) has just come into force: the marking of new bicycles has been mandatory since January 3, 1.

With this distribution agreement, Shimano France is committed to protection against bicycle theft.

The marking consists of applying an identifier provided by Bicycode from the national file manager (FNUCI) to the bicycle frame. It must be unalterable and easily readable when the bike is parked. This can be an engraving of the frame protected by a sticker (micro-percussion engraving) or a secure adhesive which itself carries the identifier (Adcolite label). Thanks to this marking, the police (the National Police, the Municipal Police and the gendarmerie) can now quickly identify the owner of a bike in the event of theft and thus return their property.

Adcolite labels, distributed by Shimano France, have been available in stores for several weeks. These resistant labels are perfectly adapted to the requirements of cycle identification, they benefit from an ultra short installation time and one of the lowest prices on the market (€9,90 Recommended Retail Price, label plus registration). The Adcolite label is suitable for all types of bikes, carbon, aluminum, steel, titanium. Micro-percussion is only reserved for steel or aluminum bikes.

Bike owners receive an email once the seller has registered on the FNUCI. They can then create their dedicated spaces on Bicycode where they can report the theft, loss or sale of their bikes. In the event of a sale, they can then transfer the bike, and the new owner can keep the identifier already affixed to the bike. There is also the possibility of adding several bikes to the same account.

Individuals wishing to mark a bicycle already in their possession can go to the store to carry out the Bicycode marking.

In addition, the marking of used bicycles sold by professionals will also be mandatory from July 1st.
