Northwave launches the new Veloce Extreme

Developed with Filippo Ganna and manufactured in Italy, the Northwave Veloce Extreme uses a Powershape HT sole which would offer 4% more power compared to the previous generation, according to the Italian brand.

This new shoe model was validated by Filippo Ganna, hour record holder and Olympic champion, and its impact was measured in a concrete and numerical manner. Entirely designed and manufactured in Italy, the Veloce Extreme is also the accomplishment of a completely new project based on thirty years of experience at the highest level and fueled by the permanent desire to push the limits of innovation.

The shoe was designed in synergy with a true champion, and in collaboration with around fifty testeurs. Ganna raced the entire 2023 season with the Veloce Extreme on his feet, covering more than 10 km in competition, from sprints to time trials and from the Poggio di Milano-Sanremo to the cobblestones of Paris-Roubaix. His new shoes did not go unnoticed, with their remarkable aesthetics and especially their design high tail, which extends the sole well beyond the heel.

+4% power, +9% stability depending on the brand

The Veloce Extreme is an innovative shoe both in its form and its essence. This is due to the technical solutions patented by Northwave, which aim to minimize energy dispersion in all phases of pedaling, both in traction and in thrust. The Veloce Extreme has been the subject of a biomechanical study on the effectiveness of the new PowerShape HT (High Tail) sole compared to the Powershape, Northwave's best performing sole to date.

More precisely, opportunities, testSprint, progressive et at constant power have been carried out. The result is clear: the Powershape HT sole of the Veloce Extreme would cause a significant increase in minimal internal rotation of the foot when pedaling. This reduces the overall rotation of the foot, thus optimizing the pressure on the pedal and reducing ankle movements in the frontal plane.

Compared to the Powershape sole, the Powershape HT would increase stability by 9%, reduce perceived effort by 15% (measured by the RPE, “Rate of Perceived Exertion”) and, above all, would increase maximum power by 4%. All this compared to the previous sole model used by Northwave at the top of the range.

The Veloce Extreme in detail

The Powershape HT sole is made of 100% unidirectional carbon with a stiffness index of 15, the highest on the Northwave scale. The exclusive High Tail structure features a asymmetrical design which allows the heel to find its natural position in the shoe while supporting the inside of the foot. The patented Powershape arch system provides additional support and comfort.

La talonnette rubber sole is replaceable and extends the life of the shoe. Wide ventilation grooves promote thermoregulation and internal air circulation, while the sole is also compatible with Speedplay pedals, as is customary at Northwave.

Technology ARS Northwave's ("Anatomic Reticular Support") is back in its 2.0, now even lighter. The ARS 2.0 provides additional support to the foot, wrapping it and protecting it thanks to the wheel system on the upper part. In synergy with the Powershape HT sole, the foot is kept in the right position to maximize power transfer to the pedals.

La stem micro-perforated presents a overlapping construction for an optimal fit and uniform closure without pressure points. It is completed by laser cuts that improve ventilation and thermoregulation to maximize comfort.

The two panels that make up the upper slide inwards when tightening thanks to the X-Dial SLW3 closure system, patented by Northwave. The double dial concept offers a high-precision two-zone closure combined with micrometric adjustment. Each pair of Veloce Extreme also comes with two insoles, both dual-density, for an even more precise and customizable fit: the first offers a thickness of 5 mm (Slim Fit) and the other 3 mm (Regular Fit).

The shoes are available online and in stores in sizes 36 to 48 (with half sizes from 39,5 to 45,5), in white and black. They weigh 295 grams (in size 42) and have a recommended retail price of € 399,99.
