Strava app launches instant messaging

Strava is launching an update to its mobile app on December 4, with a major new feature: a private messaging service. On the menu: instant messages between users, group discussions, bytagof activities or routes, and later of photos and videos. 

All Strava studies prove it: together we go further. Strava is therefore introducing an effective way for its athletes to coordinate outings., connect, find inspiration or advice, or bytagand routes.

As soon as it was publicly released on December 4, Messaging is available to all Strava users to facilitate two-person chats or group interactions, but only on the mobile app, not the dekstop. Additional updates are planned for early 2024.

Strava Messaging Features

Strava messaging is included in version 335 of the app. So an update will be required. It's available to all Strava athletes, but subscribers can expect to see specific options in the future. It's accessible via the speech bubble icon on the "Home" and "Groups" tabs in Strava.

Direct messages can be sent through a “Message” button on profile pages, depending on the athletes’ invitation permissions. A conversation can be a private message or a group message depending on the number of athletes invited when the thread was created.

With Strava messaging, athletes can control who contacts them. The messaging settings default to the profile privacy settings.

• Everybody : Anyone you follow will be able to message you.
• Client Area : Only people you follow and who follow you back can send you a message.
• No one : No one can message you first, but you can start chatting with other people.

We could testand briefly preview the Strava messaging. The features are comparable to Messenger or iMessage, with instant messages and the ability to see when the other person has read the message, or is responding to you. Depending on your smartphone's notification settings, you can know at any time when you receive a message. The system is therefore not revolutionary, but it definitely brings something more, especially for communities of athletes who have in common to ride together or for clubs, without being close enough to partagand their personal details.
