Pirelli launches the P Zero Race TLR RS: the racing tire for top performance

Already adopted in competitions by the professionals of the Lidl-Trek World Tour training, which has more than 70 podiums including 30 victories to date, it uses the advanced SmartEVO2 compound and even more racing type. Light and fast with 16% less rolling resistance than the P Zero Race.

Pirelli presents the P Zero Race TLR RS (Racing Speed), its cycling tire on route the highest performance. This tire is dedicated to competition bikes and cyclists demanding the best performance, at professional level.

Starting with today's stage of the 107th Giro d'Italia, Team Lidl-Trek officially adopts the P Zero Race TLR RS in the race. The American team, both women and men, who have been racing with this model since the beginning of the season (under the #prototype label), have already won more than 70 podiums, including a 2nd place in the Strade Bianche and Strade Bianche Women, a 2nd place in the Liège-Bastogne-Liège Women and a 2nd and 3rd place in the Paris-Roubaix Women and Paris-Roubaix Men.

30 victories are to be noted, including the fourth stage of the Giro d'Italia, the Tour of the Alps, Ghent-Wevelgem, the Tour de la Provence and the Tour of Flanders WE, as well as two national titles (ITT and route) at the South African Championships.

The P Zero Race TLR RS is the latest version of the P Zero Race bicycle tire range, produced in the Milan-Bollate factory. This new model rises to the top of the P Zero Race tire range route Pirelli's high performance tyre and has been designed and developed specifically for racing. Its characteristics focus on grip in all weather conditions, excellent road holding, route when braking, accelerating and cornering, minimal rolling resistance and light weight.

A new generation SmartEvo compound

The P Zero Race TLR RS uses the SmartEVO2 compound, whose original formulation has evolved both chemically and in terms of manufacturing processes. Manufactured in the same Pirelli factories that develop the compounds for motorsport, the SmartEVO2 compound comes from a blend of “intelligent” polymers, i.e. chemically treated to enhance the properties of the different polymer chains, created to give the tire now optimized grip and speed.

The patented SpeedCORE™ technology of the casing is available in a lighter version for this model. The thickness of the tread and the layers of fabric of the structure have been revised in order to reduce the weight (-8%* compared to the P Zero Race TLR) and contribute, together with the compound, to significantly reduce the rolling resistance (-16%* compared to the already high-performance P Zero Race TLR).

The P Zero Race TLR RS is a tire tubeless ready equipped with a new bead, whose geometry and internal structure, made with a different arrangement of the Kevlar fibers, have been redesigned to promote the compatibility of the tire with the latest generation of rims, whether with or without hooks.

Fast and efficient design

The proximity of Pirelli's R&D department in Milan Bicocca to the new specially equipped plant in Bollate allowed the rapid and efficient development of this new tyre, the design of which took less than six months. The prototypes were subjected to tests and validated in the laboratory, using virtual development and design models (which Pirelli has and which are commonly used in the automotive sector), in the Pirelli Interior Test Center, and on the route. Of testJoint trials between the Pirelli test team and Lidl-Trek athletes took place along the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily and in the heart of the Arenberg forest in France.

Thus, the P Zero Race TLR RS embodies the nec plus ultra racing tires on route Pirelli. Its name, "Racing Performance", defines its use and distinguishes it from the P Zero Race (All-Round Performance) and the 4S model (All-Weather Performance). The other models (P Zero Race TLR SL, P Zero Race Tub SL and P Zero Race TT) complete the range and are intended for very specific cycling activities.

This new tire is now available in the best cycling stores and online, in sizes 26-622, 28-622, 30-622 and 32-622.
