Continental, DT Swiss and Swiss Side launch a specific tire for front wheels in partnership

Continental has teamed up with DT Swiss and Swiss Side to create the ultimate wheel-tire system (WTS) for serious and professional cyclists looking to gain every advantagetagand in the search for performance. The collaboration resulted in an innovative tire specific to the front wheel, designed to set a new benchmark in aerodynamic performance: the AERO 111.

The tire of route specific to the front wheels demonstrates advantagestagsignificant aerodynamic improvements at increased yaw angles in extensive wind tunnel testing. Developed in collaboration with DT Swiss and Swiss Side, the AERO 111 tire is the best performing tire, regardless of the rider's preferred rim.

Continental’s most aerodynamic tire to date, the AERO 111 deploys a patented tread design incorporating 48 cavities evenly distributed across the tire surface. These innovative cavities act as vortex generators that control the turbulence of the air as it hits the front wheel. This action promotes the adherence of the airflow to the front wheel rim profile and delays the flow separation, thus maximizing the sail effect.

The result is the ultimate WTS: an aerodynamic collaboration between the wheel and the tire leading to reduced drag and optimized handling, allowing speed-oriented cyclists to move forward with better control in crosswinds.

The AERO 111 uses proven technology from Continental’s high-performance Grand Prix 5000 TR family, including Vectran Breaker puncture protection technology and tubeless-ready capabilities. The AERO 111 uses Continental’s race-optimized BlackChili compound for the lowest possible rolling resistance and exceptional grip in wet and dry conditions, while Active Comfort technology absorbs vibrations for a smooth ride.

Available in two widths, 26-622 and 29-622, the AERO 111 has been designed to create the world's most aerodynamic WTS when used in combination with DT Swiss Aero or Endurance wheels. The tire also offers an advantagetage competitive to cyclists who install it on their favorite wheels from other brands.

Hannah Ferle, Product Manager route at Continental Tires, said: « With the AERO 111, we have added a tire to our range route high-performance tire that can do it all: it’s aerodynamic, grippy and fast. This collaboration has allowed us to extend our race-proven technologies to build a tire like no other. Next time you encounter a crosswind, you’ll have no excuse not to ride in front.”

Jean-Paul Ballard, CEO and founder of Swiss Side, added: « The development of the vortex generator features found on the AERO 111 tires has spanned 4 years. The result is a design that is perfectly optimized for both the 26mm and 29mm tire versions, delivering a revolutionary aerodynamic improvement in wheel performance at all speeds.

Dr. Matthias Meier, Chief Marketing and Sales Officer and Vice President of DT Swiss, said: « Looking back on many years of joint research and product development with Continental and Swiss Side on this project, we are thrilled to present nothing less than the world’s fastest tire. This tire symbolizes our collective quest for ultimate performance and our commitment to pushing the boundaries of aerodynamic technology.”
