Cervélo launches the new P5!

The Cervélo P5 is a machine that was designed for one thing: to help you get from point A to point B as fast as possible. The brand is launching a brand new version of this already iconic TT/Triathlon bike, which offers greater comfort and efficiency. This is the bike used on the Tour de France time trials by the Visma – Lease a Bike team.

Cervélo launches the new P5!

Cervélo is based on 30 years of expertise in aerodynamics, collected feedback from all the athletes who ride the brand's bikes (triathletes and pro racers), did extensive testing in the metaverse with CFD, and testand in the wind tunnel different 3D printed frames to verify what she saw on the computer… All this in one and only: to create the fastest racing machine in the world, while being the most adjustable and comfortable possible.

As it is built, the new P5 is about 5 watts faster than the old one. Much of that gain comes from the wheels—there’s not much additional optimization within the confines of the UCI’s design boxes. But Cervélo has freed up space in the fork and between the seatstays to make room for a new generation of wider, faster wheels, like the Reserve 77/88. Paired with a 29mm tire, these wheels are not only more aerodynamic, but the larger volume tire also reduces rolling resistance.

The new P5 frame is about a watt more aerodynamic than the previous model and can accommodate 34mm tires. That means more room for the new Reserve 77/88 wheels and 29mm Vittoria tires, saving about 4 watts over the previous Reserve/Vittoria combination, for a total saving of about 5 watts.

Simplicity and adjustability

The new one-piece front end (introduced on the S5) is easier to assemble and adjust, and the height is now adjustable up to 40mm, while the Basebar height decreases by 10mm to minimize frontal area. The new Risebar allows for tilt adjustment from 0 to 30 degrees, in 5-degree increments.

Comfort and control

The P5's new elbow rests and pads are wider, taller and thicker than before.. Significantly more comfortable, they also allow you to gain a lot of confidence. A larger support surface allows for better control, which means more time in the most aerodynamic position possible.

Tolerance

New fastback saddle bracket design reduces vertical stiffness by approximately 22% (while maintaining the lateral stiffness needed for power transfer). The TT position is not the most comfortable (to say the least), but the new P5 will allow you to arrive fresher in T2.
