A call for responsibility from all
This murder once again highlights the urgency of strengthening cohabitation between all users of the route and to protect cyclists. The preliminary investigation indicates that the cyclist was riding under normal conditions, respecting the code of the routeThis new tragedy adds to a long list of accidents and intentional violence against cyclists, and raises many questions about road safety in France.
Enough of the killing on the route !
For too many years, the French Cycling Federation and "My Bike is a Life" have been calling on public authorities to take action, but have not received an appropriate response. However, they are asking:
- Taking into account a real-life cycling situation for future drivers and for middle school students in the content of the Attestroad safety school education (ASSR);
- Regulatory measures to facilitate the use of bicycles and understanding by motorized users by:
- Explicit road signs on cyclist traffic;
- A reduction in the authorized speed on certain roads routes;
- There’s nothing quite like a reconuniform birth of cycle paths by specific colours;
- Clear rules on priorities for vulnerable users.
The road crime that we are seeing goes against the development of cycling desired by the State and endangers the learning of cycling for young people within the framework of Knowing How to Ride a Bike, in our French Cycling Schools, and for getting adults back on the saddle.
The French Cycling Federation and the association "My Bike is a Life" reiterate their call for a Grenelle on safety for cyclists in order to have all the stakeholders in the route around a table and discuss concrete measures.
