Cycling technology innovator Hammerhead today announced the first major update to its Karoo cycle computer, with an extended battery saver mode. Continuing Hammerhead’s commitment to iterative software improvements throughout the life of its products, Battery Saver Mode allows riders to customize their Karoo to achieve over 35 hours of battery life.
“We know from talking to runners that ‘battery anxiety’ is a real issue for many athletes, and runners are always trying to maximize their battery life. To address this, our team has spent a lot of time on testand to optimize our operating system to allow cyclists to better control their battery. Whether they spend long hours cycling or simply want to load their Karoo less, we want to give them the opportunity to personalise the experience that best suits their needs.” – Grayson Pollock, Software Product Manager, Hammerhead.
With this update, riders will be able to choose between three different battery states:
● Default driving mode (15+ hours battery in standard use cases).
● Battery saving mode (30+ hours battery).
● Advanced battery savers (35+ hours battery)
Battery saving mode:
● Use Karoo's battery saving mode to automatically turn off the display – it will turn back on when you need it most (e.g. turn cues, CLIMBER alerts).
● By default, the screen stays on for 35 seconds after an event. Runners can customize the timer in their battery saver settings menu.
● Runners can customize the events that trigger the screen to turn on. Customize “Screen Triggers” in Battery Saver settings.
● By default, using Battery Saver Mode caps your screen's maximum brightness at 45%.
● Store battery saver mode settings in driving profiles for easy access, or configure them on the fly.
Battery saving mode with advanced battery savers:
● Get the most out of Karoo by configuring additional Advanced Battery Saver settings.
● Set to maximum brightness in Advanced Battery Saver settings for longer battery life.
● Set the maximum screen brightness you prefer to save extra battery when using battery saving mode.
● Now enable the 'Slower Processing' feature. Enabling the 'Slower Processing' feature will slow down your Karoo's CPU and processing speed in order to save battery life. To enable this feature, click on the 'Advanced Battery Saver' menu
A number of optimizations have also been made with this update to reduce the time it takes to first GNSS acquisition on Karoo. This will improve the time it takes to first locate once you start Karoo.
- Surface type distribution is now displayed for imported routes. Previously, surface type distribution was only displayed for routes created on Dashboard.
- Added additional information about pre-race training sessions on Karoo. You can now see which zone your training is focused on as well as how much time you will spend in each zone during the workout.
- Improved CLIMBER off-route to work when rerouting is disabled.
- Improved the Bluetooth pairing flow to show the verification screen regardless of whether you are on the “Phone Pairing” screen on Karoo.
- You can now tap Control Center overlays to dismiss them more quickly after performing an action in Control Center.
- Fixed an issue where K2 was not detected after iOS 18 update. All other pairings and operations are restored with this update.
- Improvements to CLIMBER so that bridges no longer cause split climbs.
- Fixed an issue where Nicaragua maps could not be downloaded.
- Fixed an issue where the radar sidebar would get stuck when the screen was turned on/off.
- Features:
- Surface type distribution is now displayed for imported routes. Previously, surface type distribution was only displayed for routes created on Dashboard.
- Bug fixes:
- Fixed an issue where workout thumbnails were not displaying correctly on Safari.
- Improvements to the List view pairing flow and added instructions on how to find your serial number to identify the correct device.
