Origine GTS: high performance made accessible

A new GTS range is making its debut at Origine. The mission of this GTS range is to make the world of high modulus carbon and all the know-how associated with it accessible. At a time when all developments are focused on ever stronger, higher, faster and ever more expensive, with the GTS range, Origine has decided to focus on how to develop bikes with an accessible price positioning but whose behavior and reliability rival the most high-end manufacturing.

GTS: 3 letters, 2 families in gravel and on the route

Origine has developed the GTS range on 2 of its flagship models, the Graxx and the Axxome. On these 2 types of bikes, the work of carbon fiber is essential, because these bikes perform well without artifice, the manufacturing technicality and the layups are the key to this result.

High modulus fiber or nothing

All bikes in the Origine range are made from high-quality fibreglass. Module (HM) or Ultra High Module (UHM) for the GTR ranges. It was out of the question for the brand to offer a bike that was not manufactured at least with HM fiber. The GTS range is a pure engineering product, a real technical challenge to use HM fiber with simpler molding and counter-molding processes than the GTO and GTR ranges, while maintaining a behavior that will titillate the GTO series.

GTS // GTO: what are the differences?

As mentioned, for the GTS range Origine has developed a simpler and less expensive casting technique than the GTO range. The main challenge was to match 90% of the performance of the GTO range while maintaining the efficiency, ease and reliability that have made the GTO and GTR series so popular.

The most noticeable difference will be felt in comfort.. The brand prefers to be totally transparent and not sell a cheaper bike that is just as fantastic in every way as a higher-end bike. It's hard to match the comfort level of the GTO series according to the many feedback from its customers and the press. The Axxome GTS and the Graxx GTS are still among the most comfortable bikes on the market.

An authorized bias because today the width of the tire sections allows to maintain a level of comfort almost identical from one model to another.

• To obtain the comfort of an Axxome GTO fitted with 28mm tires, you will need to switch to 30mm on the GTS (knowing that the maximum section is 35mm)

• To obtain the comfort of a Graxx GTO fitted with 35mm tires, you will need to switch to 38mm on a GTS. Beyond 700×40 the difference will be almost imperceptible, it will be played out at 0.3 bar of inflation difference.

• The other difference will be the weight of the frame with 11% more weight for the Graxx GTS compared to the GTO, 8% for the Axxome GTS frame compared to the GTO frame.

A specific construction

You already know the Unique Matrix Layup of the GTR range, the EPS molding of the GTO range. In addition to these molding techniques, SPS molding is used, internal counter molds compact the fiber along the entire length of the 3 tubes of the front triangle.

The difference with EPS molding is that on SPS molding the counter molds are placed along the entire length of the 3 tubes of the front triangle, for EPS molding the counter molds are placed along the entire front triangle including in the socket and the corners.

To achieve a level of performance almost equivalent to the GTO with EPS molding, Origine played on the positioning and construction of the HM carbon fiber drapes. A cost-saving factor that allows us to offer these GTS series is that Origine uses exactly the same geometries and the same molds as the Axxome 3 and Graxx 3. The design office therefore did not have to work on these 2 points.

It is simply the concept of transmission manufacturers who make the more accessible ranges benefit from the technologies developed for high-end groups when the latter evolve. It is common to find old Dura-Ace developments in new Ultegra groups for example. As if the adage "it was better before" cannot apply to all situations.

The Origin configuration

As with the rest of the entire range, the GTS series benefits from the Origine configuration. In order to best guide you in your choice, the brand has specially selected components with the best performance/reliability/price ratio.

You will be able to choose your components from a pre-selected list, your favorite color from 20 shades and most importantly you will be able to adapt the bike to your measurements. You will no longer have to suffer the standards that some product managers impose on you, everyone has a unique morphology, everyone has the right to ride a bike adapted to their measurements.

The brand does not intend to impose a 44cm handlebar on a 1.90m climber on the pretext that he rides an XL, or a 40cm handlebar on a 1.65m rugby player.

When you order your Origin, you have directly and at no extra cost gears adapted to your practice, cranks to your size, a stem that you won't need to exchange, a handlebar with the right width, the choice of the saddle that suits you best. All while controlling your budget and with a color that you like.

Dynamo hub technology

From a distance, what may look like a standard hub mounted on your wheel is actually a dynamo. DT Swiss has partnered with market leader in dynamo hub technology Shutter Precision to seamlessly integrate their SP PL-7 generator into a custom hub body.

What makes the dynamo hub special is hidden in its hub shell. From a distance, what looks like a standard hub when mounted on your wheelset actually hides a dynamo.

Dynamo product range

The freedom of off-road cycling is yours. With their dynamo hub, these robust aluminium gravel wheels ensure that your lights are always on when you need them, whether you’re hiking in the wilderness or commuting to work early in the morning. If you prefer to put together your own wheelset, the dynamo hub is also available as a separate item.

Efficiency

As one of the most efficient technologies on the market, this hub dynamo with the SP PL-7 generator achieves an efficiency of 72% at 15 km/h, while delivering a standard output power of 6 V 3 W.

The dynamo hub generates electricity from the rotation of the front wheel to power your lights and other electrical devices. This adds some resistance, but thanks to the design of the hub shell and the efficiency of the SP PL-7, it has minimal effect on your ride. Efficiency is measured with the lights on and off.

Sustainability

With a custom hub shell, you can count on the build quality you expect from DT Swiss hubs, while benefiting from the global network of service centers for a seamless customer journey.

Compatibility

This new front hub dynamo being StVZO compliant with a rated power of 6 V 3 W, ensures compatibility with standard hub dynamo products, including dynamo lamps and converters for USB powered devices.

    1. The home trainer has changed a lot since the appearance of new applications. It is sometimes really realistic, and time passes very quickly with good equipment that faithfully reproduces the difficulties of the route.
