On April 27, 2025, the Cyclo'Tour Classified season kicked off with the Cyclo Sud Bourgogne, the first of six events planned for this year. Nearly 500 cyclists gathered in the picturesque setting of the Mâconnais and Tournugeois regions, on the hillsides of the Massif Sud Bourgogne, for a day combining sport and discovery.
An expected return on the routes
The Cyclo Sud Bourgogne marked the end of the winter break for many enthusiasts, eager to get back to the routes after months of indoor training. Under the auspices of the Cycling Challenge, which brings together more than 14 cyclists across France each year in events route, gravel and mountain biking, the atmosphere was friendly. The participants, equipped with gleaming bikes, displayed their determination to return to competition or enjoy a supervised outing.
Three courses for all levels
Cyclists had a choice of two formats: a timed mode for competitors looking for performance, and a touring mode for those who preferred to ride at their own pace while admiring the scenery. Three distances were offered:
- CYCLO 51: 51 km, 700 m of positive elevation gain
- CYCLO 84: 84 km, 1 m of positive elevation gain
- CYCLO 122: 122 km, 2 m of positive elevation gain
A demanding and renewed course
This 2025 edition has unveiled new routes, punctuated by iconic passes such as the Col des Chèvres, the Col de la Percée, the Col de Brançion and the Col de la Croix. Although the profile is not that of a high-mountain stagetagThe series of hills and the hilly terrain put the participants to the test, requiring strategy and endurance.
A lively race
On the CYCLO 122 course, a trio broke away from the opening kilometers, setting a sustained pace. Maxim Pirard, two-time cyclosportive world champion (2019 and 2021), took the sprint victory after 3h09m41s, at an average speed of 38,5 km/h. The presence of Nicolas Debeaumarché, a professional rider for Team Cofidis and a native of the region, added a special touch to the event.
The Cyclo Sud Bourgogne has thus launched the 2025 season of Cyclo'Tour Classified successfully, offering participants a memorable experience between sporting performance and discovery of Burgundian treasures.
