Available now, this innovation builds on the Teammachine R 01 model, offering a level 01 carbon frame finished with a single layer of clear coat. This minimalist finish, dubbed VAR0 (for “Variation Zero”), highlights the natural texture of the carbon while serving as an ideal base for a custom paint job.
What is VAR0?
The VAR0 frame uses grade 01 carbon, protected by a thin layer of varnish that preserves its raw appearance and lightness. This finish, the lightest offered by BMC, reduces the weight of the frame by eliminating traditional paint layers. It provides an ideal platform for cyclists wishing to personalize their bike with a unique paint job, requiring only light surface preparation before application.
Initially available on the Teammachine R 01, the VAR0 frame and fork offer the same aerodynamic performance and stiffness as the standard models, while being lighter. The model is offered in sizes from 47 to 61 cm, with an expansion planned for other BMC platforms in the future.
Creative freedom for cyclists
VAR0 appeals to both fans of sleek aesthetics and creative types. While BMC doesn't offer a paint service, the brand recommends working with professional painters to fully exploit the VAR0's potential.
To facilitate customization, BMC makes creative files available through its reseller network and will soon offer sticker sets via slikgraphics.com. VAR0 frames are covered by BMC's standard warranty, provided the required stickers (serial number, UCI certification) remain in place. Note that the warranty does not cover the costs of custom paint.

For those who prioritize lightness, the Teammachine R Mpc remains BMC's lightest and stiffest frame, thanks to advanced carbon manufacturing techniques. However, VAR0 offers an attractive alternative for those seeking both performance and customization.
