Denis Dugouchet, builder of routes and dreams: a champion mastermind of the 2025 Masters

The French Masters Championship, scheduled for July 18-20 in Saint-Sauveur-le-Vicomte (Manche), will bear a unique signature: the mark of its organizer, Denis Dugouchet. Former elite rider, Masters European champion, renowned mechanic in Herblay… Denis is the very embodiment of the passion for cycling — not only on the saddle, but in the heart of the cycling community. And this time, it is he who is marking the route.

What still drives the runner

At 57, Denis remains driven by the same flame as when he started: “A passion for cycling and I like to give back what this sport has given me.“Competition is no longer the only horizon; it has become a lever: to transmit, to unite, to give back what he has received. He admits this with the modesty of those who know what giving means: “Whoa no! Unfortunately, I still have the desire, that's the main thing."And if today he is no longer so focused on performance, this desire is more powerful than ever.

The man, the runner, the resilience

Between 1986 and 2000, Denis spent 14 years in the first category. His career was marked by victories and defeats, too. But everything changed in 2005:victim of an accident…, 2 fractured vertebrae. I still have after-effects today, but the passion is stronger than the pain.“A radical truth: when you love, you get back up. After a period of inactivity, cycling was no longer just a sport, but an emergency, a landmark in the reconpersonal instruction.

Denis does not bother with sadness: “I have forgotten the hardest moments."His memory retains the positive: the camaraderie, the finish lines, the momentstages. “My career itself, the encounters, the victories, the defeats: these are only good memories.“A man of emotional balance, who willingly lets go of the past.

Giving a friend victory is sometimes greater than taking it. Denis, the natural class at Châteauroux in 1999.

Mechanic in Herblay: the other side of passion

Having arrived in Herblay almost by chance, he is now part of the “Métérinaire Vélo” family: “TodayToday I like being in this family.“Every week, after the mechanics, he puts his wheels on the route : "a short lunch outing with colleagues, 41 km. We only have one circuit."But in winter, it is at the Saint-Quentin velodrome that he rides and feeds on pure movement.

Mechanics? It’s not a trick: it trained him to know his bike, and especially his body: “Today, if I prepare a goal, I am able to do the 'JOB' like a young leading man."But for him, technology remains a bridge to self-knowledge and knowledge of the machine - and a service to those who ride today:"I see that many people prioritize aesthetics over efficiency. I'm a mechanic who knows a little about the subject.“This honesty is his trademark: neither show-off nor precious posturing; just the commitment of the humble enthusiast.

The Channel, its roots, its routes

Denis is Norman to the end, and proud of it: “These are my roots. With the bike, I moved around a lot, but I came back."He loves the Channel, its landscapes, its discreet climbs, its routethat he knows by heart: “My beginnings… I know quite a bit about routes since time.“In winter, a pedal stroke towards the Alpine reliefs, in summer, a return to the country:”When I see Thierry Marie or Anthony Delaplace, I believe it: we can be efficient while remaining deeply local."

When Jalabert came to challenge Denis Dugouchet on the routeThe Spanish-speaking pro versus the local. Two worlds, one respect.

He establishes a principle: “Go for it, have no regrets."Even if he has to embark on professional back-and-forths, his heart in two places, he doesn't look at the distance; he looks at the objective.

The organization: building a legacytage

Le 2025 French Masters Championship is no coincidence: present in 2022, during the championships in Crocq, Denis started the project: “During the 2022 championships in Crocq, I spoke with Jean-Michel Richeffort… that's how it started.“A discreet, but decisive click.

Two years later, the irresistible desire to promote the Channel took shape: “Saint-Sauveur-le-Viscount, because it's a beautiful place."Since then, it has been a painstaking process:"lots of appointments, meetings, phone calls."He does not embroider on the role, but specifies: "This project is my idea, but I surrounded myself with the best team”, with the municipality, the clubs, the company Lemardele Sport Organisation.

Before organizing it, he lived it. Before bringing it together, he won it. This jersey, this emotion, this place: perhaps it was ultimately here that the idea germinated.

The most important thing: the sense of celebration: “I want the competitors to be happy, and for it to be a cycling party all week.“This championship is not just a sporting challenge: it is a communion, a moment of life throughtagee: “It's very special, the Masters championships, they are often reunions between former players..."

The challenges, the ambitions, the lasting traces

The challenges are enormous: finding a budget, volunteers, political commitment... But when Denis knocks on the town hall door, the response is immediate: “Mr. Briens told me, 'But you shouldn't look elsewhere.'“A rare and driving sign of confidence.

The goal? To stay in people's memories: “I wish everyone would remember that.“Through a united community: Espoir Bike Team, La Roulibre Saint-Sauveuraise, local clubs — all united:”I put out a call to all the surrounding clubs, some of them responded."This is the meaning of his approach: more than a championship, it is a gathering of the vital forces of the territory.

Around the table, much more than a sporting project: a territory in motion. Dugouchet, the discreet driving force behind a unifying momentum.

Today's cycling: lucid and demanding

Denis observes a changing sport: “An elite that's becoming more professional, and a gap that's widening behind it. A fragmented calendar, fewer and fewer riders."He perceives its fragility:"In 1991, at ASPTT Paris, there were 27 of us in the first category. Today, there are 15 elite players in Île-de-France, all in the same club.“Traditional races have faded. But there is hope:”The Masters are great, but we are not the future of cycling.“A cry of alarm: youth, clubs, local events – everything remains to be strengthened.

Every runner, every volunteer has their place: “It's a shame, we need you as much as you need us."In this look, Denis constructs a philosophy of sport: objective? set yourself heights, dare to fail, and always love. :"I like to set the bar high... what's the risk? Not succeeding, no problem, I'll have tried.“A state of mind, a lesson.

When the human construction site becomes the test

By deciding not to compete in this edition, but to devote all his energy to it, Denis is sending a clear message: cycling is also the ability to set out a project, to build it, to bring it to life. It's my idea, but I surrounded myself with the best team.“For him, performance is not just about effort or watts; it is collective, organic, sustainable.

He calls on other territories: “Above all, I would like it to make people want to do better.“The message is out: a championship, a city, men — a whole that goes beyond the individual.”I hope my runner profile has helped me better understand what participants expect.“Behind the logistics, there is the inner velocity of the athlete.

He could have competed in the race. He preferred to organize it. But on a bike, as in a project, Denis always remains on the attack.

The man of both banks, the bridge between generations

Denis embodies a transition. Between yesterday's elite, today's amateur pro, and the youth of tomorrow. He is on two banks—Herblay and the English Channel—and is building a symbolic bridge. He didn't choose the easy way: organizing brings neither glory nor prizes. So why? Because he believes in it, quite simply.I really like my region, but I also like mytagne.“He says what he does, without posturing.

The championship he organizes is a testament: above performance, there is humanity. Passion never fades, it changes, it translates into actions, into commitment.

A story that traces its own route

At the end of these three days of racing, if there is only one memory that Denis wishes to leave, it is that of the celebration, of the reconbirth, of transmission. This championship will not only be measured by the clock, but by the joy of reunions, collective efforts, routedrawn by the strength of arms, ideas — and dreams.

What if this 2025 French Masters Championship in Saint-Sauveur-le-Vicomte turned out to be more than just a race? What if it became a symbol that cycling is a sport of...tage, of surpassing, of rooting, carried by men like Denis Dugouchet: builder of routes, master of his ambitions, guardian of the cycling passion.

When an idea becomes reality… and it passes from hand to hand.

More than a runner, a passer

Denis Dugouchet isn't just organizing a championship; he's writing a human epic. That of a man who, by folding up the pump in his workshop, gets back on his bike to chart a collective future. He shows that you can be a champion, a craftsman, an organizer, a builder—often at the same time. And that each route, whether paved or imagined, always begins with a dream. A slightly crazy dream? Yes, but a passionate one. And that is why, from July 18 to 20, we will follow in its footsteps—and the ramifications they have drawn—with admiration and emotion.
