New Strava features for cyclists and runners

New tools to explore, optimize your workouts and ensure fairer rankings within the global community of Strava.

Strava, the fitness platform, has unveiled a series of new features to help users achieve their summer goals while optimizing their performance. These new features are part of a wave of ongoing innovation, reinforcing Strava's commitment to enriching its membership for its growing global community.

Explore with more precision

Route Redesigned Builder: Starting August 28, the mobile route creation tool is getting a makeover. With a more intuitive and dynamic interface, planning a route becomes faster and more precise. Thanks to Strava's Heatmap, powered by billions of activities, users can access routes and trails most frequented by the community, guaranteeing reliable and suitable routes.

This update, rolled out gradually, includes:

  • Enhanced details: View real-time elevation, distance, terrain type, and slope as you explore the map.
  • Advanced customization: Add, move, or delete points of interest (cafes, viewpoints, amenities) for a tailor-made itinerary.
  • Multi-sport flexibility: easily switch between different types of practice (route, gravel, trail) to another when creating.

Train more efficiently

Starting in September, two new features, Power Skills and Training Zones, will offer runners and cyclists a detailed analysis of their performance to help them progress intelligently:

  • Power Skills: Resulting from the acquisition of The Breakaway, this feature is aimed at cyclists equipped with a power meter. It offers a visual analysis of personal bests over 12 key intervals, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement. It will soon be possible to compare recent efforts (last 8 weeks) to historical best results.
  • Training Zones: This tool displays the time spent in each zone (power, pace, or heart rate) over various periods (week, month, quarter). The goal: to optimize the balance between effort and recovery to achieve peak performance.

Fairer rankings

Strava is strengthening the integrity of its leaderboards with advanced artificial intelligence models. This year, 4,45 million unrealistic activities were removed, restoring KOMs and QOMs to legitimate performance. A major new feature concerns e-bike rides: they are now automatically detected and classified in dedicated segments, excluded from the running or cycling leaderboards. The result: an 85% decrease in reports of inappropriate activities in one year.

A strengthened commitment to the community

« These new features, combined with the rapid integration of The Breakaway, illustrate our desire to best support cyclists and runners around the world. ", says Matt Salazar, Chief Product Officer of Strava. From optimized route planning to detailed performance analysis and fairer leaderboards, Strava helps every user maximize their efforts to achieve their goals. » With these innovations, Strava continues to position itself as an essential partner for athletes seeking performance and pleasure.

A comment on “New Strava features for cyclists and runners"

  1. Nothing works in the Strava app. I have a power sensor paired with my Wahoo Roam meter and nothing has changed, it's still the same app without the power skill and training zones. I should point out that I have been a subscriber for several years. It is impossible to contact Strava by email to find out how to update the new app!
