Strava launches a new version of its Apple Watch app with Live Segments

Strava, the popular fitness app, is now available for Apple Watch. This new version focuses on performance and brings Strava Live Segments directly to your wrist for the first time.

An improved experience for athletes

By 2024, more and more athletes were using an Apple Watch to track their activities on Strava. To meet this demand, the new app offers a simple and intuitive interface with:

  • A performance-oriented design to quickly start an activity and easily track your statistics (pace, distance, time, heart rate)
  • Automatic and reliable data synchronization to Strava

Live Segments: the live competition

Live Segments allow you to measure yourself in real time on portions of route or trail, favorites or popular worldwide. The watch displays a notification when approaching a segment, then a live progress tracker with a visual indicator of how far ahead or behind your personal best you are.

Strava Premium subscribers get additional features like:

  • Live performance tracking with comparison to your record
  • A countdown of the remaining distance on the segment
  • Instant display of results after the segment is completed

Strengthened collaboration between Strava and Apple

Matt Salazar, Strava's product manager, emphasizes that this update goes beyond simple tracking to bring real-time motivational features. This announcement follows improvements to the connection between Apple Fitness+ and Strava, aimed at offering even more inspiration and motivation to athletes.

Strava's new Apple Watch app is available now on the App Store, with free trials of Apple Fitness+ for current or trial users.
