Norwegian hat-trick at the Ironman World Championship in Nice

Under the bright sunshine of the Promenade des Anglais, Casper Stornes clinched the IRONMAN 2025 World Champion title in Nice, cementing his status after his third-place finish at IRONMAN Frankfurt this year. Joined by fellow Norwegians Gustav Iden (2nd) and Kristian Blummenfelt (3rd), Norway made history by achieving a memorable hat-trick, becoming only the second nation to accomplish this feat after Germany (1997 and 2016).

An orchestrated Norwegian domination

Already the winner of the IRONMAN 70.3 in Nice in 2021, Casper Stornes shone once again on the Côte d'Azur. Having finished 8th in the swim and 6th after the bike, he waited until the run to take the lead. The Norwegians, led by Stornes, Iden, and Blummenfelt, set their pace, overtaking leader Sam Laidlow and distancing their opponents one by one. This team strategy led to an all-Norwegian podium, a historic moment for this latest edition of the IRONMAN World Championships in Nice.

A Frenchman shines among amateurs

In the amateur category, Frenchman Quentin Amaral, a member of US Palaiseau Triathlon, distinguished himself by winning the world title with an impressive time of 8h41'20''.

Reaction from race director Yves Cordier: “ This race was explosive, with a record-breaking swim, nearly four minutes faster than the previous edition. The Norwegians had announced their ambition to monopolize the podium in January, and they lived up to their promise with a stratospheric performance. Sam Laidlow set a remarkable time, better than when he won the title in 2023, but the Norwegians were untouchable. For the last edition of the IRONMAN World Championships in Nice before the Half IRONMAN World Championships in 2026 and 2028, this is an exceptional conclusion. »
