Test of the complete Q36.5 Dottore Hybrid outfit

Q36.5 is a brand that doesn't rest on its laurels. While some testprevious cases had concerned products very similar to those testborn here but from a previous generation (read here et leavesThe future is now secure with the new long-sleeved jersey and vest models from the "Dottore Hybrid" range, representing the top of the Italian brand's line. These two new items are complemented by tights, also from this same line.

Regarding the temperature range for this outfit, The starting temperature is 5°C for the tights and 8°C for the jersey, while the vest, by definition a removable layer, can cover a whole range of temperatures. In all cases, these products have been testTested over several months: after being put to the test in the spring, they proved faithful companions on autumn outings. And given the targeted temperature range, they will continue to be used for the next few weeks, or even throughout the winter depending on the region of residence and the time of day when riding is possible.

The outfit is suitable for a wide temperature range

Dottore Hybrid Que Jersey

Q36.5 announces right away that it is version 3.0. And indeed, there are quite a few differences compared to the previous version. testFirst of all, the pouch on the left biceps, deemed probably too useless, was removed.

The Hybrid fabric panels run from the biceps to the elbow, and on the lower part of the arm, the fabric is thinner and less warm to facilitate temperature regulation.

Let us remember that the entire outfit testée, including the jersey, uses the specific Hybrid fabric for Q36.5. This is a material without a windproof membrane per se, but its purpose is indeed to block the wind.By what "miracle"? Quite simply, by using an extremely tight weave, theoretically guaranteeing negligible passage of wind through the garment in one direction and allowing better heat dissipation in the other direction.

The Q36.5 Hybrid fabric, viewed from the inside, possesses all the expected qualities: windproof, breathable, comfortable, and sufficiently warm.

Here, the Hybrid fabric is no longer used across the entire torso but only on the upper half, with the lower part using a more conventional, even more breathable material. The arms have also undergone some modifications: the lower section is thicker (or rather, more consistent with the rest of the garment), while part of the back now also uses the Hybrid fabric to prevent cold air from entering that area.

The separation between the Hybrid fabric (top) and the more conventional insulating fabric (bottom)

The cut – already excellent – has been refined and now hugs the body's contours even better, without restriction… provided it feels slightly too tight when standing. But the magic of this type of cut is that once you're in the cycling position, everything falls perfectly, without any discomfort, of course, but also without any unsightly creases.

When standing, the jersey's cut pulls slightly, but once in the cycling position, everything fits perfectly.

In practice, the excellence of version 2.0 is even surpassed: within the 8-18°C range recommended by Q36.5 (I personally limited it to around 7-13°C, as beyond that the jersey becomes too hot, especially in sunny conditions), this garment performs perfectly. Furthermore, this garment truly bridges the gap between a traditional long-sleeved jersey and a jacket designed for genuine winter (cold). Perspiration is very well regulated, even at the higher end of the temperature range, while around 7°C, the cold is barely noticeable. Creating this "large bridge" in this way is very pleasant to use and allows for a completely versatile and, above all, relevant outfit in all conditions. Obviously, you will need to plan for a proper raincoat in case of rain and also a simple summer windproof vest or even the Dottore Hybrid vest (see below), which allows you to further extend the possibilities of the product: for example, to flirt with 4/5°C (with a fairly thick thermal undergarment) or for a very long descent where pedaling is not possible.

The back of the jersey is designed to protect against the wind (on the outside) while regulating body temperature (on either side of the spine).

Also worth noting the excellent aging of the product which is like new after 10 months of use and the washes that go with it. This is an important point which helps to make the €250 entry fee more palatable (or even €270 for the new colours, which also offer a double slider).

Dottore Hybrid Vest

Here again, Q36.5 uses the same name (Dottore Hybrid) but in a revised version. The brand announces that it has gone further in body mapping, studying cold air currents on the torso and back, and has surrounded itself with aerodynamic specialists while taking into account feedback from the Q36.5 professional team. In summary, she wanted to do the same thing, but better. Visual examination confirms that the Hybrid material extends this time to the sides and there is a real mesh in the back, along the spine, where excess perspiration often concentrates.

As with the Dottore Hybrid jersey, the central part is lighter (here in very lightweight mesh) while the outer part is designed to protect the fronttage

When putting on the vest, you immediately notice that the cut is slightly more compressive than the previous version. If you are between two sizes, you may need to order one size up for this particular garment, especially if you intend to use it in "winter" weather.that is to say, by using it preferably over a thick jersey.

A very popular trend on vests, the double zipper benefits from a beautiful finish here.

In use, it is noticeable that this vest is slightly warmer than the previous version. testThis increases its versatility, but it's worth noting that it's slightly bulkier and heavier (160g verified versus 135g, both in size S). Therefore, those who only want a very lightweight and highly compressible diaper should opt for the lighter model, such as the... Q36.5 Air vest.

The vest is slightly heavier and bulkier than a purely summer model. To achieve a fold like the one in the photo, you need to be a little more careful.

However, This vest offers superior thermal protection in summer compared to minimalist vests. and its use is truly for all four seasons of our practice and in practical terms it remains compact enough to be placed in the back pocket of a jersey.

Another commendable point is the quality of the collar, perfectly cut to be comfortable while preventing any air from entering.

The collar is very well designed: it comes up high to prevent any air from entering, but without hindering the cycling position.

Finally, in terms of construction, two pockets have been added to the back, which also represents a widespread trend among other manufacturers.

The two mesh pockets are very useful for storing a pair of long gloves and/or a raincoat.

In use while riding, the vest distinguished itself by Its comfort, versatility, and ability to manage different temperatures and intensities : without cooling down during leisurely rides, but without a "pressure cooker effect" during more intense efforts, although it's still preferable to open the vest in these conditions. Furthermore, there's no "parachute effect" or air rushing in around the shoulders, as is sometimes observed with this type of garment. This is also to the benefit of overall comfort and performance because the outputs are made without the sound of fabric "snapping" and there must still be some watts to be gained at this level.

In concrete terms, we are dealing with a An ideal garment for a wide variety of occasions, even from January 1st to December 31st., whether it's for an early start, to stay warm for the first 30 minutes of the outing, to ensure a "cocoon" comfort around 10°C or even to descend a mountain pass in the summer.

All these qualities, along with excellent resistance to wear and washing, make the €190 price tag more palatable. It's still a significant sum for a vest, but this one will be a faithful companion for many years to come.

Dottore Hybrid Tights

For this very high-end product, and therefore priced very high (€300), Q36.5 has once again pushed the technical approach to the limit. The fabrics are carefully selected (still the brand's famous Hybrid fabric) and judiciously placed according to the needs, while the chamois leather is the same as that used in the brand's most expensive models. The result is first and foremost a perfect cut, without creases or irritating spots.

The different panels are perfectly cut.
The chamois leather proved very comfortable, without losing its effectiveness after numerous washes.

In a second time, comfort is perceived as ideal The various panels fit the leg perfectly, the chamois is very comfortable from the first pedal strokes and will remain so throughout the various rides spread over several months. The different fabrics almost make you forget that you're wearing a garment that usually feels restrictive. Indeed, tights generally suffer from a less comfortable fit than their cycling short counterparts. But that's not the case here.

The fit is perfect around the bust, while remaining comfortable. Note that the tights extend quite high up the stomach (but are made of breathable fabric) to increase thermal protection.

With effort, Temperature management is excellent during strenuous activity. It should be noted, however, that the temperature range given by Q36.5 is indeed the perceived temperature: from 5°C. Below that, it's borderline, but then it's the Doctor of Thermal Sciences (not teste) who takes over.

Over the months of use, no loss of comfort or signs of wear were noted. Thus, the initial investment required can be spread over several months to justify the very high access fee. Furthermore, the optimal temperature range for personal use, observed between 5°C and 13°C, must be considered to determine which sticky will be very often used in areas with not always favorable weather.

The outer part of the chamois leather is reinforced – a guarantee of durability over time

To summarize the kilometers covered with these Q36.5 products, it must be said that they are particularly pleasant to use, to the point of to feel like you're in a real cocoon of comfort for outings around 10°CThis is generally the temperature range where choosing the "right" clothing is probably the most complicated: winter clothing would be excessive, while light clothing would make you feel the cold if the intensity drops or during a descent. Conversely, The complete Q36.5 outfit, using Hybrid fabric, perfectly meets the needs of off-season or early/late winter activities, regardless of intensity or elevation gain. The only remaining issue is the price, which is very high in this case but offset by the excellent durability of these top-of-the-range items.

  1. As stated in the article, the tights are made of Q36.5's exclusive "Hybrid" fabric. It is a brushed fabric that is internally similar to a fleece lining (only thinner) or of the Super Roubaix type commonly found in cycling clothing.
