Context and profile of the testeur
Tiago is a promising athlete At just 18 years old, he competes at the national level in half-marathons and road races. Slender (1.76 m) but light (54 kg), he has the typical build of an endurance runner: long legs, low weight, and the ability to cover long distances.
We approached him for this test because he represents an often-overlooked category: not an 80kg cyclist or a bulky footballer, but a pure endurance athletewhose legs are put to the test, both by the training sessions and the volume of running. His recovery is an integral part of his progress.
The protocol : 4-week trial, with two usage contexts:
- After an intense session (VMA, threshold, long outing): fatigue, heaviness, and muscle soreness are induced.
- Before the race, the waiting phasetage: we aim to optimize fresh legs, revived circulation, absence of a "frozen" sensation.
The model testIt is : BLACKROLL Compression Boots size M (adapted to its size), with battery, five compression chambers, various modes.

But first, a little history… Here is the history of the brand and the technology
The BLACKROLL brand It was born from a conviction: that recovery, mobility, and the care of fascia and muscles should be accessible and effective. Founded in 2007, it first established itself with the self-massage roller, then diversified into recovery accessories.
The arrival in the segment of Pressotherapy and compression boots are evidence of this evolution From a passive tool to a "technological" one, but remaining true to the "practical + performance" logic. The principle of sequential pneumatic compression is well known in high-level environments: inflating/deflating chambers around the legs promotes venous return, stimulates lymphatic drainage, activates circulation and reduces the sensation of heavy legs.
BLACK ROLL incorporated this into a more accessible format, more "endurance athlete" than "health center". The model Compression Boots This approach is therefore consistent with that logic: to offer runners, cyclists, and triathletes reliable recovery equipment, adaptable for home or outdoor use.tage.
Technical specificationsHere is the important data that Tiago, our testEUR was able to give us:
These features make the model a serious contender for demanding athletes. |
The three compression modes: blue, green, orange
BLACK ROLL had the good idea toassociate each program with a coloreasy to spot on the control module. Each person has a different logic of use.that Tiago has testtested under real-world conditions.
Blue mode – Drainage (gentle progressive pressure)
- Principle : The chambers inflate from the foot to the thigh, one after the other, then deflate, promoting venous and lymphatic return.
- When to use it: after an intense workout or a long run, when the legs are heavy, a little swollen or "congested".
- Recommended duration: approximately 45 to 60 minutes, average pressure (around 70–90 mmHg for Tiago).
- Feeling : Very relaxing, similar to a slow manual massage.
Tiago: "This is the one I used most often after tough workouts. You can feel the blood flowing back down, your calves relaxing."

Green mode – Active recovery (continuous sequential pressure)
- Principle : The five chambers inflate alternately more rapidly, with short cycles. This stimulates microcirculation and the elimination of muscle waste.
- When to use it: in the evening of a training day, or the following morning to “unlock” the legs before heading back to training.
- Recommended duration: 30 to 45 minutes, medium to high pressure (90–110 mmHg).
- Feeling : a little more energetic, you can feel it's "working" aheadtage.
Tiago: "I often used it the day after a hard workout, when I still had a bit of stiffness. It gives a good boost without causing fatigue."

Orange mode – Recovery / Pre-competition (fast cycles, lighter pressure)
- Principle: rapid alternation of inflation and deflation with gentle pressure. The aim is not to drain but to stimulate circulation.
- When to use it: 1 to 2 days before a race, or even the morning of a competition, to “wake up” the legs without emptying them.
- Recommended duration: 15 to 30 minutes, light pressure (40–60 mmHg).
Tiago: "I used it the day before or before a trip. My legs felt more responsive, without any heaviness."

Setting the time and stop
The device does not have an ultra-precise automatic timer, but it offers a simple countdown that is adjusted manually:
- Tiago selected the program (colour), the pressure with the +/– buttons, then started the session.
- No "Time" button, you turn it on and it starts for 30 minutes... and you can restart it if you want more.
- Once the time has elapsed, the cycle stops automatically: the chambers deflate gently, and the battery goes into standby mode.
- If needed, it can be stopped at any time by holding the power button for 2 seconds.
Tiago advises: "It's best to start with 20 minutes and gradually increase, depending on how you feel. When you reach 45 to 60 minutes in blue mode, you'll already have a real effect."
Actual conditions of use

After an intense session
Over several weeksTiago performed typical training sessions: 10 to 15 x 400m at VMA pace, 30 to 45 minutes at threshold pace in the middle of a 15km run, or 1 hour 30 minutes at sustained endurance. At the end, il used the boots for 30 to 60 minutes, medium-high pressure, legs elevated or semi-reclined.
He noted his sensations: heaviness, stiff calves, a feeling of "congestion". The next day, he compared his sensations with those of weeks without boots.

Ambush phasetage before the race
A few days before a goal, he joined the pre-departure usage session. 15-30 minutes of use, low to medium pressure, to boost circulation and "wake up" the legs. On race day, the goal was to avoid that "yesterday's legs" feeling or that "difficult start" feeling.
Overall volume
Over the 4 weeks, approximately 8 to 10 sessions will incorporate the boots. Alternating periods of high fatigue and peak performance will be necessary.tage. Combined use with one's usual protocol (training, sleep, diet) to neutralize variables.

And here are the observed results.
The positive points
- Autonomy : In intensive use, the battery life can still reach up to 3 hours 30 minutes. And in case of a discharged battery, the device can continue to operate via mains power.
- Sensation of lighter legs After the "hard" sessions, Tiago felt a decrease in the sensation of "numb" calves and heavy thighs. He quotes "I felt like I was carrying my legs less.".
- Accelerated recovery The next day, the return to training was smoother. The usual minor aches and pains were less pronounced. This allowed me to continue with sessions without any "slowdown".
- Affiltage effective : On the day of the race, or just before, the use of the boots allowed me to approach the start with my legs "ready", without feeling "loaded".
- Convenience / Portability The fact that we were able to take the model on board during transport/stagIt was a real asset. Quick installation, no excessive noise, simple settings.
- Perceived quality The design inspires confidence. The equipment looks serious, it's not a gadget. For a young athlete like Tiago, this reinforces the idea of a professional tool.
Les points de vigilance
- Budget For a young athlete who is still an amateur (even at the national level), the investment is not insignificant. It must be considered over several seasons.
- Usage position It is essential to be in a seated or lying position (ideally with feet elevated). If the athlete doesn't have this opportunity, the benefit is reduced. Tiago notes that one day when he used it standing up "by default," the effect was less pronounced.
- Size / fit The medium size fit Tiago, and he was worried that if he gained a little weight in his thighs or legs, the fit would become too tight. In reality, there's no sizing issue: the pressure is easily adjustable, so all sizes remain a good fit. “But be careful to measure the inseam correctly”, remind us Jacques-Olivier Barral, head of the brand in France… especially if your name is Victor Wembanyama And you call Blackroll to order boots!
- Not connected/Advanced app : The model testHe didn't have a sophisticated mobile app with data tracking. For a highly connected athlete, that's a minor drawback.
Verdict 3bikes & recommendations from Tiago
For Tiago, This model has clearly brought added value.It's not miraculous, but when you tick all the boxes (hard session, recovery, sharpness)tage), it makes a difference.
According to 3bikesRecommended if…
- You are a competitor or you train hard (volume or intensity);
- Your goal is to recover quickly, to string together training days, or to arrive fresh on race day;
- You already have a solid training/sleep/nutrition base and are looking to "take it up a notch".

To be considered with caution if:
- You are a casual amateur, moderate training;
- Your budget is tight;
- You do not have the time slot to use the device in a seated/lying position.
For the note 3Bikesbased on the test by Tiago: 4,5/5
The investment is justified for those who will actually use it. For others, it may remain a "bonus" but not a priority.
In conclusion: If we had to advise Tiago or another athlete of his stature, we would say: “Yes, take them. But commit to actually using them (post-session + sharpening).”tage)"Otherwise, we'd just put them away... and that would be a shame.
In short
The BLACKROLL Compression Boots model stands out as a high-end recovery tool., well suited to an endurance athlete like Tiago. It helps to boost circulation, lighten the legs, and approach training or race days feeling fresher.
Remember: training is key. These boots are an extra, but a useful one. if you integrate them correctly.
And if your legs feel "loaded", "tired", or you are restarting just before a goal: this tool can be a solid ally.
At 3Bikes : we approve.
