The French Federation of Cycle Touring updates its Charter for cycling infrastructure

The French Cycling Tourism Federation has published the 4th edition of its Charter for Safe Cycling Infrastructure. Completely updated, it aims to support local authorities and planners in designing public spaces truly adapted to cyclists. This new reference document will be officially presented at the Sports and Parasports Exhibition, from November 18 to 20, 2025, at the Porte de Versailles in Paris.

For over twenty years, the Federation has taken a critical and constructive look at cycling infrastructure. It formulates concrete recommendations based on the field experience of cyclists and its experts, with three main objectives:

  • Make the arrangements legible and consistent at the national level;
  • Raising awareness and training elected officials, technicians and users on safer and more responsible mobility;
  • Encourage cycling for everyday use as well as for leisure (commuting, shopping, cycle touring, etc.).

This new edition brings together all the major types of infrastructure: cycle paths and lanes, roads, and specific urban areas. It draws on numerous concrete examples, illustrating, through both good and bad examples, what to do – or avoid – to ensure safety. routecycle paths and routes.

The Charter also emphasizes several key points:

  • The need for regular infrastructure maintenance is a key condition for limiting the risk of accidents;
  • The importance of reporting defects via the Suricate application, developed with the Ministry of Sports;
  • Training for cyclists of all ages, thanks to programs supported by the Federation and the State, such as the "Learn to ride a bike" program for children or the "Get back in the saddle" programs for adults.

By publishing this new version, the Federation reaffirms its commitment to putting its expertise at the service of local communities. It supports local authorities in the design, improvement, and maintenance of safe cycling infrastructure, fostering dialogue between elected officials, technical services, and users.

Unique in its kind, the French Cycling Tourism Federation is currently the only federation to integrate all aspects of cycling into its statutes and daily operations. Present at the Sports and Parasports Show, it will be available to meet with elected officials and technical experts to discuss, bytagto share feedback and answer all questions related to the implementation of safe and suitable cycling infrastructure.
